Variations in the Annual Frequency of Tropical Cyclones,

چکیده
In this invrstigatioII the almual frequency data for typhoons and hurricanes during the 1886-1958 period arc examined in search of cycles, trends, and space correlatious. The results are largely negative. In spite of this fact, it was felt that,, for thc benefit of othc,r investigators intc, rested ill this topic, it might be worth while to outline t,he analysis procedures followd and to prwvnt the results which were ohtairlcd. We have taken a rather qualitative approach in our analysis of the hurricane and typhoon data. Howevrr, in vie\\of the character of t,he basic data we doubt that, rnorr rnranirlgful results could have heen obtained by a strict application of stat, istical techniques.

Climatic geography of Tropical Cyclone hazards Affective on the southern coasts of Iran The occurrence of any climatic fringes, including annual tropical storms, leave irreparable risks in its dominated areas. Understanding these events and knowledge of the time of their occurrence can be helpful in managing the unexpected incidents caused by them. Tropical cyclones are important natural turbu...
متن کاملImpacts of tropical cyclones on U.S. forest tree mortality and carbon flux from 1851 to 2000.
Tropical cyclones cause extensive tree mortality and damage to forested ecosystems. A number of patterns in tropical cyclone frequency and intensity have been identified. There exist, however, few studies on the dynamic impacts of historical tropical cyclones at a continental scale. Here, we synthesized field measurements, satellite image analyses, and empirical models to evaluate forest and ca...
متن کاملTropical cyclones in a T159 resolution global climate model: comparison with observations and re-analyses
Tropical cyclones have been investigated in a T159 version of the MPI ECHAM5 climate model using a novel technique to diagnose the evolution of the three-dimensional vorticity structure of tropical cyclones, including their full life cycle from weak initial vortices to their possible extra-tropical transition. Results have been compared with re-analyses [the European Centre for Medium-Range Wea...
متن کاملClimate Variations of Tropical Cyclone Activity
A review of the science on the relationship between climate change and tropical cyclones (TCs) is presented. Topics include changes in aspects of tropical climate that are relevant to TC activity; observed trends and low-frequency variability of TC activity; paleoclimate proxy studies; theoretical and modeling studies; future projections; roadblocks to resolution of key issues; and recommendati...
متن کاملHeightened tropical cyclone activity in the North Atlantic: natural variability or climate trend? BY GREG
We find that long-period variations in tropical cyclone and hurricane frequency over the past century in the North Atlantic Ocean have occurred as three relatively stable regimes separated by sharp transitions. Each regime has seen 50% more cyclones and hurricanes than the previous regime and is associated with a distinct range of sea surface temperatures (SSTs) in the eastern Atlantic Ocean. O...
